Volunteer Spotlight: Karen Richardson
Karen is an amateur bird watcher, bird researcher, and nature photographer and love coming out to Cache Creek to observe and photograph birds. She is thinking about a career change and wanted to get some professional experience with bird research.
She is currently helping with monitoring bird nest boxes, doing bird phenology surveys, and doing Swainson’s hawk surveys.
She is learning a lot about the protocols for monitoring nest boxes and surveying birds. She is also learning about the tools used for measuring wind speed, temperature, and distance in the field.
Karen loves seeing nests full of eggs in the nest boxes.
“It’s so rewarding knowing that we’ve provided a good habitat and place to nest for these birds.”
