Big Day of Giving

Raising millions of dollars for local nonprofits in Yolo, Sacramento, Placer, and El Dorado counties, Big day of Giving (BDOG) is an annual 24-hour giving challenge lead by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation. This event brings local nonprofits together to amplify each other’s voices, shining a light on the missions and projects that matter most to our community.

Investing in the Next Generation of Land Stewards: Our Goal for Big Day of Giving

Every year, the Cache Creek Nature Preserve transforms. We see it in the return of native grasses and the vibrant health of our wetlands. But the most important transformation we witness isn’t in the plants—it’s in the moments when a local student finally sees the classroom come to life in the outdoors.

This year, for Big Day of Giving, the Cache Creek Conservancy is focusing our efforts on the future. We are raising funds specifically to expand and enhance our K–8th grade education programs.

Bringing the Classroom to the Creek

Our education program is built on the belief that children protect what they love, and they love what they understand. By bringing students out of the traditional classroom and into the heart of the preserve, we provide:

  • Hands-On Science: Moving beyond textbooks to let students conduct water quality tests and study native plant biology in the field.
  • Cultural Connection: Teaching the history of the land and traditional ecological knowledge through our Tending & Gathering Garden.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Empowering kids to realize that even at a young age, they can play a role in ecological restoration.

A Community Lifting Each Other Up

Big Day of Giving is a unique moment where the “crowdsourcing” of our local nonprofits creates a rising tide that lifts all boats. We aren’t just working in isolation; we are part of a network of organizations committed to making our region better.

How to Give

Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 7, or take advantage of Early Giving starting April 23. Every dollar raised goes directly toward transportation, supplies, and expert-led instruction for our K–8 students.

Together, we can ensure that every child in our community has the chance to get their hands in the dirt and their hearts in the mission of conservation.
