The Conservancy has an opening for a six-month, limited-term appointment as a Habitat Restoration Specialist.
The position could turn into a full-time, permanent position, pending funding. We are accepting applications through July 31st.
A Habitat Restoration Specialist (HRS) is responsible for assisting the Cache Creek Conservancy’s Executive Director in habitat restoration, animal monitoring/surveys, and planting within the nature preserve and off-property restoration sites. HRS also plays an integral role on the Creek Spray team during the fall and spring.

Time Required: 30-40 hours a week
Pay: $23.55 per hour

Responsibilities
50% of the time
- Conduct Creek Spray monitoring, spraying, and planning
- Work with Creek Spray partners
- Complete land owner outreach and record keeping
- Complete Creek Spray administrative work
30% of the time (seasonably adapted work)
- Engage in invasive plant species control, primarily plants
- Maintain, repair, or install Irrigation for planting sites
- Conduct plant surveys/monitoring
- Develop and participate in cultural or control burns; especially assisting with planning and implementing the Leok Po (Good Fire) workshop in November
- Plant and map native plants on the CCNP property and at off-site locations
20% of the time
- Maintain equipment
- Assist with groundskeeping duties
- Assist with contractor and partner outreach
- Work with Assistant Director regarding scheduling
Desirable Qualifications/Skills
- Plant taxonomy/Identification
- Small mammal and bird taxonomy/identification
- Working knowledge on how to keep a field journal
- Working knowledge of Ecology and conservation/restoration
- Working knowledge of community and population ecology
- Knowledge of R, Excel, Arc GIS, or SPSS
- Work well individually and as part of a team
- Ability to lead a team in the field
- Ability to handle seasonal weather in our area. Most activities take place outdoors.
- Understanding of Microsoft Office products
- Ability to lift 50 LB and hike 1-5 miles
