For a summary of the Creek Walk, see the Daily Democrat article, published June 25, 2023, entitled Annual trek examines health of Cache Creek.
The public is invited to accompany Yolo County’s Technical Advisory Committee as they walk the 14.5 miles of the lower Cache Creek as part of their annual survey of this wonderful natural resource.
Technical Advisory Committee (TAC)
TAC was established to provide scientific and technical oversight for the Cache Creek Resources Management Plan (CCRMP) and the Cache Creek Improvement Program (CCIP).
The TAC
- collects and analyzes data,
- identifies maintenance needs and priorities,
- and provides critical review of the design and construction of improvement projects.
There are three to four TAC meetings a year, which are held “ad hoc” and are open to the public. More information regarding the TAC, its members and TAC meetings can be found on the Committee web page.
The Creek Walk
The purpose of the Creek Walk is for the TAC to observe and document the status of channel conditions as they relate to
- fluvial geomorphology,
- hydrology and
- biological resources.
The Creek Walk will take place over three days this year–June 21, 22, and 23. Each day’s hike is about six miles. The first day begins at the Capay Dam, the second day begins at the Vulcan Plant site, and the third day begins at the Cache Creek Nature Preserve. Each day begins in the early morning and ends around 2 p.m. Once you register, you will be emailed the start times.
Please Note: the Creek Walk is a walking tour that requires moderate physical exertion in sometimes harsh summer conditions.
Attendees are encouraged to wear appropriate hiking attire (hiking boots/shoes, long sleeve shirts and pants, hats, etc.), bring any necessary hiking supplies (hiking poles, sunscreen, bug repellant, etc.), as well as pack their own food (both snacks and lunch) and plenty of water.
Registration, and more information, is handled by Yolo County Natural Resources Division. Participants must fill out the online RSVP and Waiver Form prior to the event.
